From complex information to executive decisions

We develop solutions from hands-on business experience, starting with the business need and leveraging technology selectively.

We help organisations address complex business, data, workflow and implementation challenges where senior expertise, cross-functional and cross-border perspective, and hands-on execution are required — from identifying the need, through analysis and solution design, to implementation.

When can we help?

The selected examples below illustrate situations where focused external support can help address a specific business challenge, together with the type of support Blue Oceans can provide. The examples include challenges applicable across sectors and others arising in financial services and regulated environments.

Blind Spot

A recent event has revealed that complex information does not provide a sufficiently clear view of exposures, risks or emerging issues.

How we can help: Consolidate, validate and analyse the relevant information to provide a clearer view of exposures, risks and emerging issues and support management decisions.

Blocker

Critical reporting or processes have reached a point where the existing manual and fragmented approach can no longer support the required scale, blocking further progress.

How we can help: Redesign fragmented reporting or processes and implement a more scalable, business-led solution that supports the required level of activity and future growth.

Complexity

Mergers, acquisitions or cross-border structures create additional complexity and require a structured framework for reporting, controls and operations.

How we can help: Design and implement the reporting, control and operating framework needed to manage complexity across entities, functions and cross-border structures.

Financial sector

Assurance Gap

A regulatory issue, audit finding or internal review has highlighted the need for independent challenge or assurance of controls, governance or risk taxonomy.

How we can help: Independently assess the relevant controls, governance or risk taxonomy, identify gaps and support practical remediation.

Financial sector

Implementation Risk

A new business initiative — such as a product, service or market entry — has raised implementation concerns with risk, compliance or audit, calling for independent challenge and the right governance and operating framework.

How we can help: Independently challenge the proposed approach, identify implementation risks and establish the governance, roles, controls and operating framework needed to move forward.

Unclear Ownership

An important cross-functional initiative is not progressing because no single internal function has the full cross-functional perspective or mandate needed to move from analysis to implementation.

How we can help: Provide the cross-functional perspective and hands-on coordination needed to clarify ownership, align stakeholders and move the initiative from analysis to implementation.

What we do

Our work combines focused advisory support with practical implementation across complementary areas, including professional AI workflows through AID².

Data analytics & business-led automation

Transform fragmented data and complex requirements into tailored analytics, reporting and business-led automation, including data sourcing, mapping and consolidation, validation, analytical design, quantitative analysis and modelling, database and decision-support tool development and, where relevant, implementation with client teams.

Outcome: More reliable information, better-informed decisions and more efficient processes.

Financial sector

Risk, controls & governance

Assess, design and strengthen risk and control frameworks across business, investment and operational risk, including governance, risk taxonomy, risk and control assessment, investor compliance, selected regulatory and conduct controls, including Best Execution, trade surveillance and suitability, regulatory framework, regulatory control testing and audit readiness assessments, business continuity, operational resilience, remediation and practical implementation.

Outcome: Greater visibility of risks and control weaknesses, clearer accountability and stronger oversight.

New business, products & operating models

Design and implement operating models, governance structures, roles, processes and interfaces to support new businesses, market entry, new products and services, including product structuring and product governance, product viability and operational readiness, and evolving organisational requirements.

Outcome: Clearer responsibilities, improved implementation readiness and more effective execution.

AID² — Take human–AI collaboration to the next level

Make AI a proactive collaborator · Challenge assumptions and develop solutions · Keep people in control

AI Interaction Design & Deployment (AID²), a business methodology developed by Blue Oceans Advisors, is designed to take human–AI collaboration to the next level. It takes care of much of the underlying instruction and prompt complexity, enabling AI to become a proactive, solution-oriented collaborator while supporting more consistent and repeatable AI use. AID² helps translate business needs into IT language.

Blue Oceans Advisors combines AID² and practical training with its founder’s more than two decades of hands-on experience in business and operations, including solving complex business problems, applying quantitative analysis and modelling, and developing analytical and automation tools. This experience includes designing practical solutions that did not previously exist within the organisations concerned.

Who AID² is for: Business professionals, managers and teams across sectors seeking to use AI more effectively for problem analysis, solution development and critically assessing AI agent deliverables against agreed requirements.

Is AI saving your teams time — or creating hidden work?

Is AI saving your teams time — or creating hidden work?

AI can appear to accelerate work while employees spend significant time building prompts, re-explaining context and correcting outputs. To execute tasks properly, AI needs relevant business context to understand the organisation, the purpose of the work and how it should be performed.

From task executor to proactive, solution-oriented collaborator

AID² takes human–AI interaction beyond task execution by treating how people and AI work together as a business decision — including whether and how AI should challenge, refine and develop the work and propose concrete solutions and next steps on its own initiative — and bringing reusable organisational context, terminology, operating guidance, governance and applicable controls into that interaction.

As organisations consider AI agents and other AI-enabled workflows, AID² also helps translate business needs into IT language. By making requirements clearer before IT assessment, it can reduce the time and effort spent by both business and IT teams on clarification and rework.

Want AI to do more than execute tasks?

  • We help organisations apply AID² to professional AI workflows.
  • We train teams to use the method in practice.

AID² can be applied on its own or combined with Blue Oceans Advisors’ hands-on expertise when a project involves complex business, data, workflow or implementation challenges. This allows the methodology to support practical solution development while complementing internal teams and IT capabilities.

CASE STUDY 2 · PRIVATE EQUITY

Private markets portfolio analytics

Challenge

A large private equity portfolio including recently launched funds as well as legacy funds relied on multiple internal and external information sources with different formats, structures and levels of granularity. Labour-intensive mapping, aggregation, validation and reconciliation limited consolidated visibility of performance, exposure and concentration across the portfolio and underlying investments.

Transformation

Consistent mapping was established across products, funds and underlying investments, with performance, exposure and concentration data aggregated and validated at each reporting level. Reporting was designed to provide clear consolidated views across the portfolio, funds, direct investments and co-investments.

Outcome

Automated data imports, processing and report production substantially reduced manual effort and enabled production within minutes, subject to targeted reconciliation and consistency checks, providing reliable consolidated information for senior management oversight and decision making.

CASE STUDY 1 · ISSUER RISK

Global issuer concentration analytics

Challenge

Multiple source databases across five booking locations included both consolidated sources and sources requiring manual Excel consolidation of equity and fixed income exposures. Security and issuer mapping, particularly for special purpose vehicles, made it difficult to obtain a rapid consolidated view of maximum default exposure by issuer.

Transformation

A reporting tool was built together with the database structures required for consolidation, embedding security and issuer mapping and consolidating all five booking locations into one issuer risk reporting process using the latest available data.

Outcome

Consolidated issuer risk reports could be produced within a few minutes, particularly valuable during periods of market stress, while the issuer data could also be reused for other concentration views, including sector concentration. The reporting also supported senior risk management and governance oversight.

01

Business, risk and product perspective

Our advisory approach spans business objectives, product considerations, risk, governance and implementation, drawing on experience across business and control functions rather than through a single functional lens.

Recommendations are developed with practical implementation in mind, including operating processes, controls, data requirements and decision support solutions, with hands-on implementation support where relevant.

03

International and institutional perspective

Advisory work involving market entry, counterparties, products and governance is approached from a cross-border and institutional perspective, with close attention to complex stakeholder requirements.
